Bollywood Dialogue Quiz: 12 Lines to Guess, With Answers
A Bollywood dialogue quiz is the easiest game to start at any gathering: one person reads a famous film line, and everyone else names the movie. All you need is lines people half-remember. Here are twelve, six easier and six harder, with the answer hidden under each one.

Read them out loud, in the actor's voice if you can manage it. When you run out, play guess the movie from dialogue free on your phone. It deals a fresh line at random and keeps the answer blurred until you ask. The dialogue round is one part of a complete Bollywood trivia night.
How does a Bollywood dialogue quiz work?
One person reads a line and the room guesses the film it comes from. The first correct shout takes the point. That is the whole game.
The hard part is the reader. They have to deliver a Shah Rukh line without saying Shah Rukh halfway through, which is harder than it sounds after dinner.
Guess the dialogue and guess the movie by dialogue are close cousins. In one you hear the start of a line and finish it. In the other you hear the line and name the film. The twelve below are built for the second, because it works in a room where not everyone remembers the exact words.
Six easier lines to guess the Bollywood movie from dialogue
These six come from films most rooms have seen more than once. Start here to warm people up.
1. “Mein apni favourite hoon.”
Show the answer
Jab We Met (2007). Geet says it about herself, and nobody in the audience has argued with her since.
2. “Picture abhi baaki hai mere dost.”
Show the answer
Om Shanti Om (2007). The line people now use at the end of every family argument that has not actually ended.
3. “Jaa Simran... jaa jee le apni zindagi.”
Show the answer
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995). A father lets go of a hand on a railway platform. Half the room will say it along with you.
4. “Devi ka prasad mandir mein milta hai ... garage mein nahin.”
Show the answer
Hera Pheri (2000). Three broke men, one wrong number and a garage that was never meant to be a temple.
5. “Bhaisaab ye kis line mein aa gaye aap.”
Show the answer
Welcome (2007). A gangster with a painting hobby nobody asked for. Most people remember this line better than the plot.
6. “Jab log tumhare khilaaf bolne lage ... samajh lo tarakki kar rahe ho.”
Show the answer
Guru (2007). A businessman's rule for reading criticism as proof of progress. It sounds like a motivational poster, which is exactly why people miss the film.
Six harder lines for a Hindi movie dialogue quiz
The next six are for the room that got through the first half too quickly. The films are well known. The lines are not the ones on the posters.
7. “Do dost ek pyaale mein chai piyenge, isse dosti badti hai.”
Show the answer
Andaz Apna Apna (1994). Everyone knows the film. Almost nobody remembers this line, because the film has so many more quoted ones.
8. “Paneer toh, beta, kuch dino me itni itni thailiyo me sonaar ki dukaan pe bikega.”
Show the answer
3 Idiots (2009). A line about the price of paneer, from a film everyone remembers for other reasons. The room will guess a family drama first.
9. “Only asking you to dance yaar ... not maarooing chance.”
Show the answer
Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003). Half English and half Hindi, which throws people who are listening for a filmy line.
10. “Maut, mausam, machchar aur mantri ka kya bharosa.”
Show the answer
Hulchul (2004). Four words starting with M that sound like an old proverb, so people reach for a much older film.
11. “Goli woh chalate hai joh dimaag nahi chalate.”
Show the answer
Bluffmaster (2005). It reads like an action-movie threat. It comes from a film about con artists.
12. “Na moh, na maya, na mamta ka bandhan ... bus anand hi anand.”
Show the answer
Agneepath (2012). The villain says it calmly enough that people guess something devotional. This is the 2012 film, so check which Agneepath the guesser meant.
How do you score a guess the dialogue game?
Split into two teams, alternate who reads, and give each line ten seconds. The right film is one point. If nobody gets it, the other team takes one guess to steal it.
Twelve lines at that pace takes about fifteen minutes. That is the right length before people start quoting their own favorites at each other instead of guessing.
I would always run the easier half first. A room that gets the first three lines relaxes, and a relaxed room reads the hard lines better.
Where can you play more Bollywood dialogue lines online?
The Bollywood dialogue game online on Desi Mauj deals lines at random, with Easy, Hard and Mix settings and an era filter for rooms where cousins and parents quote different films. The year is on screen from the start, and the hint stays blurred until someone asks for it.
If you would rather have cards in hand, there is a printable Bollywood dialogue game pack on Etsy. It is a paid download made for passing round a table, and it uses different lines from the twelve on this page.
When the room gets tired of listening and wants to move, switch to a round of Bollywood charades, which picks a film title for someone to act out in silence.
Frequently asked questions
Where can I find a Bollywood dialogue quiz with answers?
This page is one. There are twelve lines above, each with the film and year hidden under it, so you can read a line, let the room guess, and then tap Show the answer. If you want more lines with the answer held back until you ask for it, the free dialogue game deals them one at a time, so the host never has to prepare a list in advance.
How do you guess the movie by dialogue?
Listen for who would say the line, not only the words. A calm threat usually belongs to a villain, a joke about money to a comedy, and a line about letting go to a family drama. Then narrow the decade from how much English is mixed into the Hindi. Last, think about which actor you can hear saying it. The actor usually gives you the film.
What is the difference between guess the dialogue and guess the movie from dialogue?
In guess the dialogue, you hear the first half of a line and finish it. In guess the movie from dialogue, you hear the whole line and name the film it comes from. The second is easier to run in a mixed group, because players do not need to remember the exact words, only where they heard them.
Is a Hindi movie dialogue quiz good for kids?
It works when the lines come from films the kids have actually watched. Recent comedies and big family films land better than lines from the 1970s. Let an adult read, because the delivery carries half the clue, and keep the harder lines for a second round once the younger players have had their turn.
How many lines should a Bollywood dialogue quiz have?
Ten to fifteen lines is the right length for one round at a party. Past that, attention drops and people start quoting their own favorites instead of guessing yours. Twelve lines, easier first and harder second, gives the room a warm-up and a finish, and it fits inside the gap before dinner is served.
