The quickest way in is the free Bollywood dialogue guessing game on Desi Mauj. It shows one line at a time with the film's year, keeps a hint hidden until someone asks, and reveals the film when you tap. It also works as the no-props round in a full Bollywood trivia night.

What are the three ways to play a Bollywood dialogue game?

The three ways are naming the film from the full line, finishing a line from its first half, and dealing lines from a phone so the host prepares nothing. Each one suits a different room.

1. Read the line, name the film

The reader says the whole line and players name the film. This is the version most people mean by a dialogue guessing game. It suits a mixed group, because nobody needs the exact words.

Read it flat if you want it harder. Read it in the actor's voice if you want it easier. A decent impression of the actor can give the film away before the line is over.

2. Complete the dialogue, or finish the line

The reader stops halfway and players supply the rest. Complete the dialogue and finish the dialogue are two names for the same game. It rewards whoever has watched one film forty times, and every family has one.

3. Deal the lines from a phone

One person holds a phone open at the free dialogue game and reads whatever it deals. Nobody prepares a list, so the host gets to play too.

The year sits on screen from the start, which narrows the film without giving it away. You can set it to Easy, Hard or a Mix, and filter by era, so cousins and parents each get lines from films they actually watched.

How do you score a dialogue round with teams?

Split into two teams and alternate the reader. The right film is one point. In a finish-the-line round, the right ending is one point and naming the film is a bonus point.

Give each line ten seconds. If the guessing team misses, the other team gets one guess to steal it. Without a limit, every line becomes a debate about which Kapoor said it.

On the phone version, I would save the hint for steals only. It keeps the losing team listening.

When in the evening does a dialogue game work best?

A dialogue game works best early, while people are still arriving, and again right after dinner when nobody wants to stand up. It needs no space and no props.

It is a weak closer. Once the music goes on, nobody can hear the reader. When people want to move, switch to a round of Bollywood charades instead, where one person acts out a film title in silence.

7. “Jitna bhi try karo, Bunny, life main kuch na kuch toh ...”

Frequently asked questions

How do you play a Bollywood dialogue game?

One person reads a famous line from a Hindi film and everyone else tries to name the movie. The first correct answer wins the point. You can play in teams, with a ten-second limit and a steal for the other team, or play alone on a phone by reading the line and revealing the film.

What is a dialogue guessing game?

A dialogue guessing game is any game where players hear a line from a film and guess something about it, usually the movie it came from. In the Bollywood version the lines are Hindi film dialogues, often in a mix of Hindi and English. It is one of the easiest party games to start, because the host only needs a list of lines or a phone.

How do you play complete the dialogue in Bollywood?

The reader says the first half of a famous line and stops. Players race to say the rest, word for word or close enough for the room to accept. Give one point for the ending and a bonus point for naming the film. Lines with a strong rhythm, like a list or a repeated phrase, work best, because the first half pulls the second half out of people.

How many people do you need for a Bollywood dialogue game?

Two is enough, and it scales well to a large room. With fewer than six, play everyone for themselves and take turns reading. With six or more, split into two teams and alternate the reader so nobody reads twice in a row. Teams also make scoring simpler, because one person per side keeps count.

Can you play a Bollywood dialogue game online?

Yes. The free Guess the Movie from Dialogue game on Desi Mauj runs in a phone browser with no sign-up. It shows one line at a time with the film's year, keeps a hint hidden until you ask, and reveals the film when you tap. One phone is enough for a whole room if one person reads aloud.
