Diwali Bingo Game Printable: Cards, Rules and Prizes

Group of Indian friends in traditional clothing playing a printable Diwali bingo game with festive snacks in a decorated city apartment.

A Diwali bingo game printable is a set of bingo cards you print at home, one per guest, with Diwali words or party songs in the squares instead of numbers. You can make the cards yourself in an evening, or print a ready set with the playlist already matched.

Diwali Music Bingo printable cards with diyas, a grid of Hindi party song titles and a free chai square
Diwali Music Bingo is 200 unique printable cards of Hindi party song titles, played against a 100-song playlist on Spotify and YouTube.

Bingo is one of several games you can print for the night, and the full set of printable Diwali party games has the other five.

What is a Diwali bingo game printable?

A Diwali bingo game printable is a bingo card file you print on plain paper and hand to each guest. The squares hold song titles or Diwali words, a host calls them one at a time, and the first player to complete the agreed shape wins.

It comes in two versions, and they suit different rooms.

Music bingo puts song titles in the squares. The host plays a clip, and anyone holding that song marks it. It gives the playlist a job during the hour after dinner, when nobody is dancing yet.

Word bingo puts Diwali things in the squares. The host reads words drawn from a bowl. It suits a table of children, or grandparents who would rather not shout song names over a speaker.

How do you play Diwali bingo with printable cards?

Play it in five steps: hand out the cards, call a song or a word, let players mark it, keep a record of what was called, and check the card when somebody shouts.

  1. Give every guest one card and a pen. Every card must hold a different arrangement, or the whole room wins at once.
  2. Announce the winning shape before the first call. One line is the fastest. Four corners and a full house take longer.
  3. Call one item at a time. For music, play twenty to thirty seconds from the chorus. For words, draw a slip from the bowl and read it twice.
  4. Write down everything you call, in order. You need the list to check the winner's card.
  5. Stop when someone calls bingo. Check their squares against your list, then hand over the prize.

Run it tambola style and one set of cards gives you several winners in a single round: first five marked, any line, four corners, then full house. The room keeps playing after the first prize, which matters when thirty people are holding cards and only one of them has won.

What goes on a Diwali bingo card?

A Diwali bingo card is a five by five grid with a free square in the middle, which leaves twenty-four squares to fill. What goes in them depends on the version you are running.

For music bingo, fill the squares with party songs the whole room can place within a few seconds. Write the song title only. Two lines of text per square are hard to read once the lights are down.

For word bingo, fill them with things everyone will see, eat or trip over on the night. These twelve are enough to start a card:

  1. Diya
  2. Rangoli
  3. Kaju katli
  4. Soan papdi
  5. Phuljhadi
  6. Toran
  7. Marigold garland
  8. Lakshmi puja
  9. Teen patti
  10. Gift box
  11. New clothes
  12. Chakli

Add twelve of your own to fill the grid. Soan papdi earns its square. The same box visits four houses before anyone opens it.

How many Diwali bingo cards should you print?

Print one card per guest and a quarter again as spares. Twenty guests means twenty-five cards. Cards get chutney on them, and somebody always arrives after the first round has started.

Plain printer paper is enough. The cards are used once, so thick card stock is wasted on them. Print at full size instead of fit to page, so the squares stay large enough to read.

Making your own set is free and slow. In a spreadsheet, one random sort gives you one card, so thirty cards means thirty sorts and thirty prints.

What makes a good prize for Diwali bingo?

A good Diwali bingo prize is small and slightly silly. A box of mithai, a packet of sparklers or first claim on the last piece of kaju katli all work.

I would not play for cash. Money makes people take the game seriously, and they already have teen patti for that.

With tambola-style rounds you need four prizes, not one. Make the full house prize the biggest and the first-five prize the smallest.

What else can you play on Diwali night?

Dumb charades is the natural game to follow bingo, because it needs nothing printed and nothing playing. One round of bingo fills about half an hour, and by the end of it the room is loud enough to act.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free Diwali bingo game printable?

Yes, if you make it yourself. A spreadsheet and a printer produce a full set for the cost of paper. Type your songs or words into a five by five grid, sort the list at random, print, and repeat for every guest. The work is in the repetition, since each card needs its own shuffle. A bought set saves you the shuffling and comes with a playlist that matches the cards. The game on the table is the same either way.

How long does a round of Diwali bingo take?

A single-line round takes twelve to twenty minutes with music clips of twenty to thirty seconds. A full house takes closer to thirty-five minutes. Word bingo runs faster, because reading a word takes two seconds and playing a clip takes twenty. If a round drags, announce a smaller winning shape for the next one.

Can kids play Diwali bingo?

Yes. Bingo rewards spotting, so a child who can read plays level with the adults. Word bingo suits children under ten best, because they know what a diya is long before they know any film songs. For children who cannot read yet, use a three by three grid with pictures and pair each child with an older cousin. For music bingo in a mixed room, include recent songs so the youngest players have something to mark.

How many people can play Diwali bingo at once?

As many as you have cards for. Bingo is one of the few party games that does not slow down as the room fills, because everyone plays at the same moment from their own card. Eight people at a table and sixty in a hall finish a round in about the same time. The only limit is that every card has to be different. Above thirty players, shuffling cards by hand gets slow and a ready set is easier.

What do you need to run Diwali music bingo?

You need one printed card per guest, pens, a playlist and a speaker the whole room can hear. A phone speaker manages a small table and no more. Queue the playlist on shuffle so nobody can predict the order, and keep a written list of what has played. Decide the winning shapes and the prizes before the first song.

If you are making your own, start with the twelve words above or a playlist of forty to sixty songs, and leave an evening for the shuffling. If you would rather skip that evening, the Diwali Music Bingo pack has 200 unique cards and the 100-song playlist ready to print at home.

Either way, sort out the prize first. The soan papdi is already in the house.
